Strawberries in Full Bloom

We may have some strawberries ready to sell in about a week from the field where they are grown on a black plastic mulch. The fields for pick your own, may have ripe berries in about two weeks.

The strawberries have been blooming nicely for a few weeks. There are now green berries in the fields and the rain is good for helping them gain some size before ripening. Moderate temperatures with adequate rain will be the hope for now.

Last weekend we made it through 3 nights of frost with little damage. Two nights irrigation was used to prevent damage. If you are interested in how irrigation helps to protect sensitive blooms, here is a web site which might be of interest: http://theweatherprediction.com/habyhints2/468/
